John Gallaher, winner of the coveted Levis Poetry Prize, will read selections at Texas State University-San Marcos’ Katherine Anne Porter Literary Center on Friday, Feb. 29 at 7:30 p.m.
The center is located at 508 W. Center Street in Kyle. Directions are available on the center’s Web site. Events are free and open to the public.
Gallaher is the author of such books of poetry as Gentlemen in Turbans, Ladies in Cauls, and The Little Book of Guesses, winner of the 2005 Levis Poetry Prize. He is currently co-editor of The Laurel Review and GreenTower Press. Gallaher also hosts “Nothing to Say & Saying It,” a popular blog on poetry and the arts that can be found at http://jjgallaher.blogspot.com/.
“In these poems of houses and yards and little roads, things are quietly disintegrating,” said Henri Cole, judge of the Levis Poetry Prize in his review of The Little Book of Guesses. “And the men and women are always rushing toward a future, where the sky is gray and voices are going too fast to understand, but, if you look for it, a redbud is shimmering on the lawn.”
Readings are sponsored by the Department of English in conjunction with the Katherine Anne Porter Literary Center . Levis Poetry Prize winner to read at KAP House.
