Rattlers rebound with win in CenturyTel tourney

John Navarrette was an honored guest pregame at the CenturyTel Tournament for San Marcos High School Baseball where he threw out the first pitch of the High School game. The Rattlers won the first game of the tournament against San Angelo Lake View 7-3. This was a welcome turnaround after a big loss in their season opener against Georgetown by the score of 18-1.

Zach Cruz brought in the first run for San Marcos and pitcher John Henry Ybarra lasted 6 innings helping the Rattlers win the game. EJ Alva started a rally in the fifth inning, where Lauren Morales and Zach Cruz put down some very impressive bunts. The Rattlers are starting to show some better fundamentals that will start to produce more wins on the diamond.

Blake Bagley contributed with a solid base hit past the shortstop that brought in two runs. David Palco came sliding in awkward into home plate where he injured his ankle and had to leave the game. There were no updates on his condition at press time.

Maeza throws no-hitter versus Rattlers

The Rattlers next met up with a hungry El Paso Ysleta squad that was led by Carlos Maeza. The old saying in baseball goes if you can’t hit, you can’t win and Maeza of El Paso Ysleta stands by that as he single handedly beat the Rattlers in a great no-hitter performance.

After a slow few first innings of the game, shortstop Jeremy Gonzales had an error to allow the Ysleta batter to get on base, the second batter came up hit the ball which looked like a bunt down third base about to go out and it stayed just inside fair territory.

The Rattlers Zach Cruz dropped a ball hit to center field, allowing Ysleta to score. An error on the throw from Jeremy Gonzales to first base Blake Bagley allowed two more runs to come in.

From dropped balls and errors to a total lack of hits, this was not a night for the Rattlers as they fell 3-0 to the squad from El Paso.
