CAMPAIGN WATCH: Ted Kennedy’s visit to San Marcos makes news across the state including, naturally, the Austin American-Statesman and News8Austin. The visit also made mentions in national news. . . . The New York Daily News notes parallels people are drawing between Obama and the late Kennedy brothers. Asked about the comparisons in San Marcos, however, the senator says his brothers are “on a plateau of their own.”(Their piece includes a photo of College Republicans bearing signs that recall the woman who drowned when Kennedy drove into Poucha Pond on Chappaquiddick Island, a fatality he did not report to police for 10 hours). . . . The Houston Chronicle’s Texas on the Potomac blog takes the historical parallels further, noting Texas State’s LBJ heritage and John F. Kennedy’s fateful ties to the state. . . . The Christian Broadcasting Network even shows up with it’s correspondent taking advantage of a press availability to ask Kennedy about Sen. John McCain’s reported extramarital affair. He declines to answer. . . . IN OTHER NEWS: Columbia, Md.-based U.S. Foodservice Inc is scouting for land along Interstate 35 in the Kyle and Buda areas, the Free-Press reports. The nation’s second largest foodservice distributor is shopping for 40 acres for a distribution center a company spokesperson says will employ 230 people. . . . The Statesman, Seguin Gazette, New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung and the Hays Free Press cover the University Interscholastic League’s partial granting of San Marcos High School’s appeal of their district assignment for the next two years.
