FRISCO – The Southland Conference league offices announced Tuesday that Texas State’s Katie Garnett earned the Softball Pitcher of the Week award. The honor was the first for the junior pitcher form Llano Texas.
Garnett was put in the spotlight after she threw a perfect game in a 3-0 win over Memphis, KC at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe Arizona. She finished the weekend with a 2-1 record and an 0.83 ERA. Her other win was over 15th ranked Washington where she allowed no earned runs on five hits and a walk while striking out four. Garnett’s lone loss of the week came in a 4-0 game against 4th ranked Arizona State. Garnett gave up 4 runs in that game but only one was earned.
Texas State is now 4-6 overall after going 2-3 in the Kajikawa Classic. The other games played were losses to Utah (10-8) and Nevada (8-4).
Texas State’s next set of games will be this weekend at the Marriott Houston Classic hosted by 22nd ranked Houston Cougars. The Bobcats begin play at 9 a.m. on Friday, February 22, against Centenary. Game #2 will be vs. Kansas at 11 a.m. Saturday’s games will be against Cal State Northridge (9 a.m.) and Boston University (11 a.m.). The Bobcats will then finish out the tournament against Houston at 1 p.m. on Sunday.Email | Print
