» Rebecca Conley's Blog: Lt. Gov. Dewhurst to speak at Lincoln-Reagan Dinner

The Hays County Republican Party kicks off the 2008 election year with its Annual Lincoln Reagan Dinner and Auction at Texas Disposal Systems Exotic Game Ranch and Pavilion on Saturday, February 23, 2008. They are pleased to announce and bring you the keynote speaker, Lt. Governor David Dewhurst who believes in and is a true representative of Texas.

Dewhurst is putting Texas children first and led the successful effort to pass one of the toughest Jessica laws in the nation to increase the penalties for those who prey on children. He also built on the successful May 2006 Special Session on school finance by delivering $14.2 billion in local school property tax cuts for homeowners and businesses in Fiscal Years 2008-2009—the largest tax cut in Texas history. At the same time, he led the Legislature in setting aside more than $6 billion to guarantee continued tax relief in 2010-2011. While delivering this record level of tax relief, Lt. Governor Dewhurst worked to hold spending in the 2008-2009 state budget to a modest 3.5 percent per year—far less than the rate of inflation plus population growth. Lt. Governor Dewhurst worked successfully during the 80th Legislative Session to increase funding along the Texas border to help law enforcement conduct surge operations to combat drug smuggling and human trafficking. Dewhurst believes the federal government should do more to secure our borders, but he also has worked to dedicate significant state resources to beef up border and homeland security. In the 2008-2009 budget, the state will invest more than $270 million to tighten border security, including funding for state and local law enforcement agencies to hire additional officers and purchase state-of-the-art technology.

Other guest speakers and attendants include special guest Attorney General Greg Abbott and the Master of Ceremonies will be “Bama” Brown of KASE 101FM, along with local elected officials and candidates for 2008. The event will take place at the Texas Disposal Systems Exotic Game Ranch and Pavilion located at 11508 Carl Road in Buda. on Saturday, February 23rd. Dinner will be catered by Fuschak’s Texas Pit Bar-B-Q of San Marcos. The gates will open at 5:00 pm and the Dinner/Program will begin at 5:30 pm. Individual tickets – $30.00 – can be obtained by calling Linda Kinney at 512-785-8810 or visit the HCRP website at Come and join us for a good ol’ Texas Time!
