Ekworomadu wins again

FRISCO – The Southland Conference announced the women’s basketball Player of the Week Monday and Joyce Ekworomadu claimed her second award of the season. The Texas State senior led the Bobcats to a pair of impressive victories over McNeese State and Southland’s East Division leader Lamar. Texas State has a league best 10-1 record in conference play.

Ekworomadu, a native of Coppell, Texas is the third leading scorer in conference play with 19.7 points per game. For the week, she made 16 of 31 field goals while averaging 21.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.

Against McNeese State, Ekworomadu scored 19 points and recorded 8 rebounds. In the Lamar game, she was the only Texas State player to reach double figures in scoring with 24 points. She also pulling down 7 rebounds, had 3 assists and 3 steals against Lamar.

For the season, she is averaging 17.4 points per game overall. That puts her 2nd in the conference. She leads the conference in free throw percentage, making 73 of 88 (.830) fouls shots. She is also 2nd in three-point percentage, making 57 of 128 (.445).

Along with Ekworomadu’s other Player of the Week award, she was also selected for the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District Six team.
