The San Marcos Area Board of Realtors has opened submissions to all graduating seniors from San Marcos High School for a $4,000 scholarship in honor of Cpl. Michael W. Davis, a 2002 San Marcos High School graduate who was killed by a roadside bombing in Baghdad in May 2007.

Students interested in applying for the scholarship will write an essay of 500-1,000 words about the applicant’s hero and will provide documentation that the scholarship will go towards secondary education at a community college, four-year university, or a trade school. For information, contact Rosina Valle, 393-6930, or Amy DuBose with the Board of Realtors at 396-5478.

Applications are also available at the Counseling Center at the high school. The application deadline for students to apply is Feb. 28. The presentation of the scholarship will be April 25, 2008, at the San Marcos High School.

Former teachers and classmates of Davis remembered him as being popular and well-liked by his peers. He was one of the students who traveled with the German class to Germany as part of the GAP exchange program while in high school. His wife Taryn is a 2003 graduate of San Marcos High School.
