The video was filmed at night on River Road last fall using San Marcos Fire Rescue apparatus, San Marcos Police Department cruisers and a San Marcos Hays County EMS ambulance. The public service announcement is being run statewide on television and radio in 30 second spots. The video took about 8 hours to film.

The message of “Help Us Help You” focuses on callers knowing where they are when they use a cell phone to call 911 for emergency assistance. Knowing land marks, street names and recognizing area businesses near the scene are crucial in directing emergency responders to the location of the emergency when calling from a cell phone.

The production has received a great response from the television networks and they have already agreed to triple the amount of showings on their stations.

Local business owner Gary Freeman of Big Foot Towing and Road Service provided a wrecked vehicle and delivered it to the scene of the mock accident. Gary and his crew flipped the vehicle over using their wrecker. The scene was set as a one vehicle roll-over accident with an injured victim trying to call for help from a cell phone.

“It was a pleasure working with the State Commission on Emergency Communications and the Insanity Corporation on this important educational project for 911 services,” said San Marcos Fire Chief J. Mike Baker. “San Marcos is an ideal location for filming all types of productions and we saw this as an opportunity to educate citizens on safety and using the 911 system.” Firefighters, Police Officers and Paramedics performed a mock response and rescue of the victim in the filming of the video.

The announcement was sponsored by the Texas Commission on State Emergency Communications and produced by The Insanity Corporation with offices in New York and Austin.
