Bumper crop of recruits added to Bobcats football squad

SAN MARCOS – The Texas State Bobcats Football team signed 22 student-athletes to national letters of intent on Wednesday along with three transfers. Coach Brad Wright focused on defensive players by signing 17 out of the 25 that will play on that side of the ball. “We really hit the defensive end and safety position where we had losses due to graduation,” said Wright.

Daniel Bernard, OG, 6-3, 320, Colton, Calif. (Colton High School)
All-District, All-Inland Empire and All-Southern California offensive lineman, three star recruit and rated as the No. 55 guard in the country by Rivals, Cousin of Bobcat signee Zeke Schexnider

Darius Bolden, WR, 6-0, 175, Houston, Texas (Cypress Falls High School)
Named First-Team All-District 17-5A, First-Team All-Greater Houston, Second-Team All-State 5-A selection by THSCA, Had 63 receptions for 1206 yards and 10 touchdowns, Selected to play in the Texas High School All-Star Game vs. Louisiana. Chosen as a Super Selection.

Named All-District at Tyler Lee after posting 68 pancake blocks in 2007

Was a First-Team All-District tight end and Second-Team All-District at punter, He handled kickoff duties and had 32 of 53 kickoffs going for touchbacks.

Tim Hawkins, QB, 6-2, 195, Corpus Christi, Texas (Carroll High School)
Finished the season with 1,416 yards passing and 14 touchdown passes while rushing for 747 yards and 10 more touchdowns, Was named First-Team All-District for 28-5A, First-Team All-Metro and All-South Texas, Was a regional qualifier in the 300m hurdles in track, Relative of Olympic Gold Medalist and Texas State Alumnus Charles Austin.

Recorded 89 tackles (seven for loss), five interceptions, four sacks, two forced fumbles and six quarterback hurries as a defensive end, A unanimous First-Team All-District selection at DE, Caught 29 passes for 331 yards and five touchdowns as a tight end, where he was also named First-Team All-District, First-Team selection to All-Greater San Antonio team and Second-Team All-State pick, Named an Academic All-District pick

Top 300 recruit, Versatile player who was a three-time All-District 17-5A performer where he earned All-District honors at three different positions in three different years (FB, LB and QB), As a senior QB he was 114-189 with 21 TD passes, Will represent Texas in the All-Star Game vs. Louisiana, Will also play baseball at Texas State

Mishak Rivas, RB/WR, 5-7, 160, Weslaco, Texas (Weslaco High School)
Lettered all four years, Finished as the second leading rushing in the state over all classifications, Named Texas Preps Football All-Texas Player of the Year, Rushed for 3,330 yards and scored 47 total touchdowns averaging 13.3 yards per carry, 5A All-State pick in addition to earning All-Valley Player of the Year honors and the 32-5A District MVP, Holds Rio Grande Valley records for single season rushing yards, single game rushing yards (431) and single season touchdowns, Bronze medalist in the 5A 400m dash at the state track meet, Rushed for 6,814 yards and nearly 100 touchdowns for his career.
