From staff reports
Findings in a report completed in November are laying the foundation for Texas State University’s move toward NCAA’s Football Bowl Subdivision. Among the recommendations: “Department of Athletics’ budget plan for the transition to FBS football be developed with the assumption that additional student support from the Athletics Fee will be complemented with comparable increases generated from multiple sources including community support, ticket sales or donations, marketing and sponsorships, suite leases, and capital gifts, as well as continuing institutional support.”
Students will vote Feb. 12-13 on whether to increase the athletics services fee they pay for each semester credit hour from $8 to $20 by 2013. University officials characterize the proposal as a step toward ramping up athletics department funding toward the $22 million a year a consulting firm estimates is needed.
