About 300 acres burned in Guadalupe and Comal counties in yesterday’s grass fire, the New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung reports.

The blaze started yesterday afternoon near Farm-to-Market Road 1101 and East Watson Lane in Comal before being spread by high winds to Schwarzlose Road. Fire fighters from three counties, including San Marcos and South Hays fire departments, contained the fire by about 5:30 p.m.

The cause is not yet known, New Braunfels fire battallion chief Steve Mabe told the Herald-Zeitung. A Canyon Lake fire fighter was quoted in the newspaper saying a house was saved when crews cleared a moat around the residence.

The fire came within a mile of Hays Energy, a natural gas-powered electric generation plant in far south San Marcos.
