Cameron Dennis, a young San Marcos classical pianist, is half a duo that won first among 120 entrants in early January at the United States International Duo Piano Competition held the first week in January at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Dennis and his duo partner, Shiphrah Meditz of Austin, performed the same piece they played in November at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington. Dennis has also performed at Carnegie Hall twice as part of exhibitions.

“Performing in front of hundreds of people pushes you to play your best,” Dennis said.

This summer, he competed at the Ibla Grand Prize in Ibla, Sicily where he did not place but was designated a Distinguished Musician — above Accomplished Musician and Participant. He was one of only two pianists under 20 years of age to compete.

His tour schedule this year includes performances or competitions in Moscow; Guadalajara, Mexico; Buenos Aires, Argentina; and Taipei, Taiwan. He travels with his mother, Lisa Dennis.
