FRISCO – The Southland Conference league offices announced Monday that Texas State Bobcat senior Joyce Ekworomadu was named the Southland Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Ekworomadu has scored an average of 17 points per game and has led the Bobcats to two victories as Texas State defeated Northwestern State 87-58 and Central Arkansas 95-63. On the season Ekworomadu ranks third in the conference in scoring at 15.7 points per game and has been the team leader in scoring 11 times this year and leader in rebounding 4 times. The 5’9″ guard from Coppell, Texas is hitting over 43% of her 3-pointers for the season making 33 of 76 from beyond the arc and is also very good from the free throw line hitting 36 of 48. She is also averaging 4.5 rebounds/game, 1.7 assist/game and has 22 steals.
Joyce was a Pre-Season All-SLC 1st Team Pick and All-conference selection each of the last two years. She was named 2nd Team All-SLC last year after leading the Bobcats with 13.9 ppg, was 2nd on the team in rebounds with 5.2 per game and also ranked in the top 20 among SLC players in points, rebounds, field goal percentage, free throw percentage, three point percentage and steals per game.
The award is the first of the season for Ekworomadu and the teams first weekly honor this season which is voted on by the league’s sports information directors.Email | Print
