Texas State’s acquisition of novelist Cormac McCarthy’s papers made the Houston Chronicle, which noted his annointment as “the worthy disciple of both Melville and Faulkner” by Harold Bloom. McCarthy’s violent tales of the American Southwest include The Road, winner of the 2006 Pulitizer for literature, and No Country for Old Men, the basis for Tommy Lee Jone’s recent movie of the same name. The Associated Press and the Austin American-Statesman also covered the lastest addition to the university’s Southwestern Writer’s Collection at the Alkek Library… Hays Highway gets the latest development in the epic Hays County road war. Now officials may pay for improvements to Interstate 35 with state funds originally applied to Ranch Road 12.
