Z Media, a downtown graphics studio and print shop, is once again paying for window damage caused by a late night bar fight.

Just after midnight Friday, Justin Sanchez, 23, Robert Flores, 23, and Sammy Rodriguez, 26, were arrested for public intoxication after San Marcos police responded to a criminal mischief call. Officers found Flores and Rodriguez behind the Frost Bank. Rodriguez was holding his bleeding hand while Flores attempted to cover the license plate of his vehicle, Sgt David Waugh said.

Witnesses say Flores pushed Sanchez causing his hand to go through the window after being removed from Dillinger’s, a few doors down on Hopkins St.

“Unfortunately, we are just a couple steps away from the bars,” said Dan Olson, Z Media’s manager. “It happens just about once a year.”

Z Media employee Jeff Farris said the three windows cost about $800 per panel for a total of $2,000. Because San Marcos police ruled the incident “reckless damage,” the men are not necessarily on the hook for damages, Farris said.

“I don’t know how long it will take to get them replaced. It just depends, the hard part is coming up with the money,” Farris said.

On the plywood covering their storefront’s gaping hole, the Z Media people wrote a quote from Dean Vernon Wormer in Animal House: “Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son,” it says.
