City of San Marcos street crews will start tree trimming on Roosevelt and Alabama Streets Nov. 7 in preparation for minor reconstruction of the two streets in Victory Gardens starting next week.
The entire length of the two streets, or 1.12 lane miles combined, will undergo minor reconstruction over the next 6-8 weeks. Minor reconstruction involves grinding the old asphalt, recycling it with base materials, reshaping the base, and adding a new asphalt surface. Motorists are asked to drive carefully in the construction zone.
Public Works will do minor reconstruction of 8.05 lane miles of streets this year. The department maintains more than 271 total lane miles in San Marcos.
Streets that will be resurfaced this year will include Alabama, Roosevelt, Cheatham from C.M. Allen to Guadalupe, Clyde from Perkins to Girard, High Street, Hummingbird, Laurel Lane from Alta Vista to Quail Creek, Perkins from Franklin to Hazelton, Quail Creek, Weatherford, and Wilson from San Antonio to Faris. Quail Creek and Laurel Lane are currently under construction.
This week, the city council approved the lone bid on an annual contract for street construction material to the city. Public works will pay San Marcos-based Colorado Materials an estimated for $577,450 flexible base ($4 per ton), black base cold mix ($55 a ton), crushed rock ($10.25 a ton) and hot-mix asphaltic concrete ($46.25 a ton).
